The Secret Old ‘Parrot Method’ of Learning a Language That No-one is Talking About
Here’s a little language learning secret that no one really speaks about... 

Most existing Italian language courses and apps… simply don’t work! 

That’s because they use an old, outdated way of teaching Italian. It’s an old-fashioned, traditional way of teaching, based on memorisation.

You’ll remember this from school…

You’re given phrases. Then you're told to repeat them, like a parrot.

You can't remember Italian through other courses because they use the old Parrot Method of learning

But the Parrot Method is outdated. It’s not true learning that sticks in your mind forever.

(Think about it. If these old methods worked, wouldn’t we all be fluent after years of high school Italian?)

So with regular Italian learning courses using the Parrot Method, you might memorise some grammar rules. Maybe a few verb tables. 

You might also pick up some vocabulary, if you Parrot it enough times!

But here’s the trouble:

When you finally speak Italian with a real person, you draw a blank!

That’s because you can say some memorised phrases, but you don’t have any skill with Italian.

You can’t go 'off script'. You can’t improvise. You can’t say how you really feel. 

And you almost certainly don’t understand the replies! (Just like a parrot.) 
The result? A one-way conversation. 

Worst of all…

Because the Parrot Method is nothing more than the kind of short term memorising you did at school, you’ll soon forget everything you learned!

The Big Problem With Language Learning Companies Today 
Have you tried to learn Italian before... and failed? There is a big reason for that. And it’s not even your fault.

You see, most language learning companies are lazy. They’re big corporate companies with executive teams and investors. That means their number one focus as a big corporate entity is to make as much money as possible.

The Problem With Cheap Language Courses & Apps: You Get What You Pay For!
You can always spot mass language learning companies because they sell language learning at a cheap price and aim to get as many users as they can.

Like I said, profit comes first! . But you, the customer, eventually pay for it with a poor language learning experience. You only realise months later when you’ve forgotten everything you learned! 

I mean, when did you last meet someone who said “I got fluent in Italian with an app?”

How I Invented The ‘Story Learning’ Method to Learn Languages Quickly
I’ve been developing my 'Story Learning' method for over 15 years. But I first had the idea after a brush with death on top of a mountain! That was the first time I discovered the power of learning languages through story. 

I was on holiday in Argentina. I was stuck in a village on top of a mountain and I woke up at 3am and I couldn't breathe because the air was so thin. 

I was scared of dying and I didn’t want to go back to sleep. So I started to read a Spanish book that was in the hostel where I was staying. 

The book was really hard, because my Spanish wasn't very good. But I didn't want to go back to sleep so I just kept reading and reading.
Amazingly, the next day, I still remembered lots of words and phrases from the book. I wasn’t even trying to memorise anything at all! 
I thought that was quite strange. 

So I kept reading the book the next day. Even though it was hard, I kept reading. Eventually, I finished the book. 

My Italian vocabulary went through the roof. My grammar was much more natural. And when I spoke Spanish with people later, I was more relaxed and confident. 

Not only was I speaking Spanish much better,I could understand a lot more too!

And the reason was that I’d just spent all this time immersed in the story. I had flooded my brain with Spanish. 

So, at that point, I knew I was onto something. It was clear that my traditional methods of learning Italian before, were nothing compared to what I had found.

So that was when I started to develop the 'Story Learning' method.

You’re on vacation in Italy. One day, you get hungry. You have a choice of three snacks: arancini, saltimbocca and prosciutto. Two of the snacks are fine. The other contains poison. But you don’t know which! How will you choose which snack to eat?
How would you solve this mystery?

Now, I don’t know how you tried to solve this mystery in your mind. But actually, that wasn’t the point! 

You see, when you read about this mystery, you automatically learned something.

You learned about three kinds of Italian foods:

• arancini
• saltimbocca
• prosciutto

You weren’t trying to learn anything. The learning just happened naturally as you thought about the mystery. 

And because you don’t want to get poisoned, you probably thought carefully about it! 

This is how 'Story Learning' is designed too. You learn Italian naturally as you read and listen to the story!

The Secret 'Double Activation' Trick Behind 'Story Learning'
The Italian learning story I’ve created is written so that beginners can start to understand things. You start by reading the story (you won’t need to actually understand too much Italian at this point). 

You just need to get your eyes and ears immersed in Italian. Your mind will begin to adapt. It’s just like learning a language naturally, when we were kids.

Next, you listen to the story. Then you read and listen to it together at the same time. The secret is just to activate your senses and get them working together. 

Your ears get used to the sounds of the Italian language. Your eyes get used to reading Italian, through my lessons.

This 'double activation' of senses is the trick to language learning through story. This is what builds the strength and flexibility in your Italian.

It’s Almost Like Learning Italian in Reverse!
You cover the Italian story first (which is the reverse of how Italian is usually taught). This lays the groundwork for the lessons. 

During the lessons you go over the story. That’s when you break down how the language works in the story that you’re already familiar with.

This is what strengthens your Italian. You get confident enough to go out and actually use the language. 

The overall idea is that you spend plenty of time immersed in Italian and this helps you learn Italian naturally.

That is the pattern for each module and then that is repeated for 20 modules throughout the entire course.

I'm not a complete beginner. Is this course still relevant for me?
Yes, absolutely. Although you might be covering some familiar territory in the early lessons, many people find it helpful to go over the basics more than once. The main advantage of this course is that you will be listening and reading to the story that accompanies the course from the beginning, which you will be able to enjoy even more with your existing knowledge. The speaking lessons will also enable you to consolidate the Italian you already know, which all contributes to building a strong foundation and making fast progress in the language.

What variety of Italian do you teach in the course?
The course is based on standard Italian. It's the offical Italian that everyone understands! 

With a strong foundation in the language, which this course provides, you will have the knowledge and flexibility to adapt to whichever particular variety of Italian you wish. The most important thing is that you learn in the first place, and this beginner programme is the best possible place to do that. 
How comprehensive is this course?
There are 20 course modules in Italian Uncovered. Each module module contains 7-10 hours of study time (minimum), comprising:

• Reading and listening to one chapter of the story
• Cognates activity and lesson
• Vocabulary and grammar lessons plus practice worksheets
• Pronunciation training plus exercises
• Speaking activities

With Italian Uncovered we aim to take you through A1-A2 level, to the point where you’re ready to begin a B1 level intermediate course. 

As such the total study time on the course is 150-200 hours, which is plenty to get you to B1 level.

How is Italian Uncovered different from the many other Italian courses out there?
When I set out to design Italian Uncovered, my main aim was to set it apart from every other Italian course. The way I've done that is to base the entire course around a story, and, in fact, the course syllabus itself emerges from the story. 

Let me explain...

Most Italian courses are structured by taking a bunch of grammar rules, putting them together in a certain order, then teaching them to you one-by-one in a series of lessons. This is dull, and ineffective. In this course, we do things differently. In this course, your main focus is this: To read and enjoy the plot of the story! That's right - you concentrate on reading and understanding the story. The "formal study" happens another way! 

You learn through a process known as "Guided Discovery". What's guided discovery?  Well, rather than teaching you a particular grammar rule in an abstract way, I first make sure you first see the grammar rule being used in the story itself - in context - so you get to learn how it works in a natural way. Doesn't that sound more exciting than your last textbook?

You discover the rules by yourself (with help from me of course), which makes learning much more effective. This means you get to enjoy learning Italian first and foremost, rather than get bogged down in technicalities from the start. (Yes... it's fun!)

At every stage of the course, you’ll be immersed in real Italian - both the written story and the audiobook. This means that by the time you finish the course, not only will you have read an entire book in Italian, but you’ll have a large vocabulary, so you can express yourself fully in conversation. You will also have had many hours of listening practice, so that following spoken Italian will be effortless.
